READINGS FOR THE TWENT-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (B)
First Reading – (Genesis 2:18-24) – God made man and woman for each other. The bond of marriage means they are no longer two but one.
Responsorial Psalm – May the Lord bless us all the days of our life.
Second Reading – (Hebrews 2: 9-11) – By entering fully into human life, by experiencing the bitterness of death, Christ became a brother and a saviour to all people.
Gospel Reading – (Mark 10:2-16) – Christ teaches that the marriage bond comes from God and that it is permanent and indissoluble.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, nourished by the Word of God, let us now turn to God our Father in heaven and place before him our own needs and those of the Church and the world.
The response is… Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for the Church: that we may encourage and support all who have accepted the journey and vocation of marriage. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for the institution of marriage: that we may ever be moved to safeguard marriage as it has always been understood within the Church and within our society. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for people who have been joined together in the Sacrament of Marriage: that God’s grace may continue to work in them, especially in difficult times. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for single people, the widowed and separated: that they may be blessed with good friends on their journey through life. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for all the sick of our families and our parish, those in hospital, in hospice or nursing home and those for whom we are asked to pray: that God may give them strength and fortitude, and bless those who care for them. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for the souls of all those whose anniversaries, months mind and birthday remembrances we are asked to recall, as well as those who have recently died: that they may receive the reward of their faith and enjoy the happiness of heaven. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
CONCLUSION: God our Father, look with love on families everywhere. May they praise you when they are happy and turn to you in times of sorrow. We make this prayer and all our prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.

OCTOBER DEVOTIONS
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. According to an account by fifteenth-century Dominican, Alan de la Roch, Mary appeared to St. Dominic in 1206 after he had been praying and doing severe penances because of his lack of success in combating the Albigensian heresy. Mary praised him for his valiant fight against the heretics and then gave him the Rosary as a mighty weapon, explained its uses and efficacy, and told him to preach it to others. A plenary indulgence is granted when the rosary is recited in a church or oratory or when it is recited in a family, a religious community, or a pious association. A partial indulgence is granted for its recitation in all other circumstances.

CALENDAR
On Tuesday we remember Paris’ patron saint, the martyr Denis & his companions, and St John Leonardi, a 16th-17th century figure, dedicated to resisting Reformation ideas through the order he founded and inspiring the church’s missionary efforts. Thursday of this week is the memorial of Blessed Pope John XXIII, the beloved, humble pope who catapulted the Church into the modern age by opening the Second Vatican Council at the beginning of the 1960s.

SECOND COLLECTION FOR CHURCH BUILDING
& MAINTENANCE FUND THIS weekend
This Sunday (6th October 2024), being the first Sunday of the month, the normal second collection will be taken up at all Masses to help support our Church Building and Maintenance Fund for the month of October.
A box intended for the Church Building & Maintenance Fund Collection will be situated at the back of the church for the next two weeks beginning next weekend. Please be generous towards our second collection as this greatly helps pay for essentials such as continued maintenance and much needed repairs to our parish buildings and existing facilities.

PREPARATION FOR THE SACRAMENTS
Thank you to the parents, guardians and carers of our children from St. Cadoc’s and St. Charles’ Primary Schools for attending the sacramental meetings during the week. My thanks also to the teachers, school staff and all others who support and do their best to help our children in their faith formation. Once again, I wish to remind parents, guardians & carers of candidates for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation of the importance of attending the Mass faithfully each week.

wellspring project update
You will be aware the Diocese has launched a renewal project entitled ‘Wellspring” to encourage us respond with fervour to our baptismal calling by involving ourselves in the different ministries of our parish.
I continue to encourage as many parishioners as possible to become involved in the day to day running of the parish. Current serving opportunities include: Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Committee, volunteers to help look after the altar linens, arrange flowers and decorate the Church. Other options include, as altar servers, sacristans, volunteers to help clean the church, readers at Mass, ministers to help distribute Holy Communion, SVDP, as pass keepers, offertory collection organisers, children’s liturgy helpers, safe-guarding co-ordinators, website co-ordinators, crib builders, volunteers to help maintain church grounds and open and close the church, etc. We are fortunate in that we are a parish community that lends itself to getting involved. Opportunities always exist for parishioners to volunteer and participate in some aspect of parish life.
As part of this renewal project, in agreement with the head teacher of St Cadoc’s Primary School, it has been decided that children from the school community will bring the offering gifts in procession on the second Sunday of every month, starting from October. I thank Mrs Faloon, the head teacher, for taking such an initiative to get involved in the life of the parish.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY
We resume the Children’s Liturgy of the Word once again at 10am Mass today after their September weekend holiday. I encourage parents, guardians & carers to bring their children to the church to participate in our children’s liturgy. Our young ones are the future of our parish. Their participation in parish activities, such as the children’s liturgy, is an important step in their faith formation. It is my humble and hearty request to parents, guardians & carers that you bring your children to a Sunday Mass on a regular basis.

CLASSROOMS FOR MALAWI
AFTERNOON TEA FUNDRAISER
Classrooms for Malawi afternoon tea fundraiser will be held on Wednesday 23rd October 2024 in the parish hall of St. Columbkille’s from 1pm – 4.30pm. Doors will be open from 12.45pm. Funds raised will be put towards purchasing bunk beds and mattresses for the pupils at Ngumbe Secondary as they are presently sleeping on the floor. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO HELP WITH RISING ENERGY BILLS (GAS & ELECTRICITY)
As we head into winter, we face an expensive but essential bill for heating our church. Keeping warm over the winter months is vital for both the well-being of those attending the church, regardless of how full or not the pews may be, as well as the protection of the fabric of the building from both surface and interstitial condensation. Irrevocably this means high heating bills.
Since the aftermath of Covid-19, the cost of living, from buying groceries to heating our church and presbytery, has been on the rise sharply every day. Overall, our expenditures have increased faster than income. Our parish relies entirely on your contributions to pay our bills. I kindly appeal to your generosity to add an extra pound or two to your weekly contributions to help defray, in particular this winter, the high costs of energy bills.

Unfortunately, parishioners of St. Cadocs’ who drive to church are in a situation where there is no private parking within the church grounds. The streets surrounding the church therefore invariably become congested with parked cars especially at weekend Mass times. Whilst acknowledging the limitations of parking in relation to the church, I would ask those drivers attending services to consider the needs of local residents to have unimpeded access to their properties when choosing where to responsibly park. You can also use our car park which is situated behind the church. It can accommodate 6 cars.
