READINGS FOR THE EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (C)
First Reading – (Ecclesiasticus 27: 4-7) – Through three picturesque comparisons, the reading makes one point: that a person reveals in his speech the kind of person he or she is.
Responsorial Psalm – It is good to give thanks to you, O Lord.
Second Reading – (1 Corinthians 15:54-58) – St. Paul says that if we persevere in doing the Lord’s work, we need not fear death. When we die we will share in Christ’s victory over sin and death.
Gospel Reading – (Luke 6:39-45) – In this reading Jesus insists that one’s inner being is made manifest in one’s speech and behaviour.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, in today’s Gospel Jesus says, “No sound tree will produce rotten fruit”. As faithful, fruitful children of God, let us now pray for our own needs and those of the Church and the world.
The response is… Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We continue to pray for Pope Francis: that God may bless him with a return to good health and grant him renewed energy to continue his service to the Church and the world. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for victims and survivors of abuse as we mark this coming Friday a Day of prayer for those who have suffered, or are suffering, from abuse of all forms: that they may find love and consolation from the support of family, friends and from a penitential and remorseful Church. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for all young people who are preparing this year for their First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion or to receive the sacrament of Confirmation: that they and their parents may be strengthened in their commitment to the faith of their Baptism. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for ourselves: that, as we approach the holy season of Lent, we may find time in spite of the busy-ness to prepare for the sacred journey towards Easter. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for all the sick of our families and our parish, those in hospital, in hospice or nursing home and those for whom we are asked to pray: that God may give them strength and fortitude, and bless those who care for them. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for the souls of all those whose anniversaries, months mind and birthday remembrances we are asked to recall, as well as those who have recently died: that they may receive the reward of their faith and enjoy the happiness of heaven. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
CONCLUSION: God our Father, by the grace of your Son may we flourish in our Christian faith and bear the fruit of good works. We make this prayer and all our prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.

ASH WEDNESDAY
Wednesday of this week, 5th March 2025, is Ash Wednesday. It is a day of Fasting and Abstinence. Mass with the Blessing and Distribution of Ashes will take place in St. Cadoc’s at 10am & 6pm.
The Season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Lent is the season of fasting, prayer and penance. During the six-week period, we prepare to celebrate the Paschal Mystery: the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord. I encourage you all to prepare your hearts and minds during this season of grace and blessing by joining in prayer and participating in the liturgical and communal prayer experiences offered by the parish.

DAY OF PRAYER FOR VICTIMS
& SURVIVORS OF ABUSE
The Catholic Church in Scotland will again keep the Friday after Ash Wednesday, 7th March 2025, as our Day of Prayer for those who have suffered, or are suffering, from abuse of all forms. We continue to pray especially for victims of abuse within the Church, for healing and consolation for those who have been so gravely wronged.

SECOND COLLECTION FOR CHURCH BUILDING
& MAINTENANCE FUND THIS WEEKEND
This Sunday (2nd March 2025), being the first Sunday of the month, the normal second collection will be taken up at all Masses to help support our Church Building and Maintenance Fund for the month of March.
A box intended for the Church Building & Maintenance Fund Collection will be situated at the back of the church for the next two weeks beginning this weekend. Please be generous towards our second collection as this greatly helps pay for essentials such as continued maintenance and much needed repairs to our parish buildings and existing facilities.

GRATEFUL THANKS
Officially we are now into the final month of winter, though April can still be a cold month. Keeping warm during the cold weather is vital for our well-being and also required to protect the fabric of church buildings from both surface and interstitial condensation, no matter how full the pews. Our parish relies entirely on your donations and contributions to heat the church and presbytery. Thank you to all who donated and contributed financially to help us pay the heating and electricity bills over the winter months. Every little bit helps. Thank you once again for always being there to support your parish church. I look forward to your continued help and constant support.

SCIAF WEE BOXES LENTEN APPEAL 2025
SCIAF Lenten packs are now available at the back of the Church. During this year’s Lenten appeal SCIAF will be focusing on the country of Colombia.
For six decades, a violent civil war involving guerrilla groups, private armed groups, drug cartels and government forces have left hundreds of thousands of people dead and forced nearly seven million to flee their homes. Despite the recent peace agreement, conflict remains and Colombia has one of the highest number of internally displaced people in the world. Poverty and displacement continue to be significant problems.
SCIAF has been working in Colombia since 1985, focusing on promoting peace, helping indigenous and afro-Colombian people to preserve their land, protect their land rights and protect themselves from threats from illegal mining operations. They are helping communities who were forced to flee their homes to stand up for their rights and reclaim legal access to their land. They have also provided seeds, tools, livestock and training to marginalised communities to enable them to grow more food and support themselves.
As we enter into Lent in March 2025, SCIAF is asking you once again to help bring hope to those facing poverty and injustice in both Colombia, and around the world by supporting their WEE BOX LENTEN APPEAL. Please make sure that you collect a 'WEE BOX' for SCIAF Lenten donations for you and your family on your way out after Mass. The boxes should be handed in at the end of Lent.

FIRST CONFESSIONS
Please pray for the young people of our parish whose parents are offering them for First Reconciliation on Tuesday 18th of March 2025 from St. Cadoc’s Primary School at 6.30pm and Thursday 20th of March 2025 from St. Charles’ Primary School at 6.30pm in St. Cadoc’s Church.

CONFIRMATIONS
Some of our young people attending St. Charles’ Primary School will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in St. Bride’s Church, Cambuslang, on Thursday 27th March 2025 at 7pm. Please pray that our young people, strengthened by the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Confirmation, will be true witnesses of Christ to others. May they spread and defend the faith by word and deed.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY
The Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place at 10am Mass (except school holidays). I encourage parents, guardians & carers to bring their children to the church to participate in our children’s liturgy. Our young ones are the future of our parish. Their participation in parish activities, such as the children’s liturgy, is an important step in their faith formation. It is my humble and hearty request to parents, guardians & carers that you bring your children to a Sunday Mass on a regular basis.

SACRAMENTAL CANDIDATES
Parents of candidates for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation are reminded of the importance of attending the Mass faithfully each week. The children’s Liturgy at the 10am Mass forms a vital part of your child’s instruction for the sacrament.

SSVP
We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the parishioners of St. Bride’s and St Cadoc’s for your support and generosity during the last year. We were able to help many of those requiring assistance for food, gas, electricity, clothes and various household items including furniture and white goods.
Anyone or family who are looking for help should approach one of our Parish Priests in either St. Bride’s or St. Cadoc’s who will then contact us. Our details and contact numbers will be handed over so that you may speak to us directly. All requests are strictly confidential between the conference and those in need of help.

LOOKING FOR PASSKEEPERS
We are looking for more passkeepers especially for 11.30am Sunday Mass. The ministers of welcome are commonly called the passkeepers. Passkeepers have very diverse roles. The responsibilities of the pass keepers include welcoming people to Mass and other events in the church and ensuring any materials (e.g., weekly bulletins, hymn books and leaflets) are distributed to, and collected from, congregations. Pass keepers also provide practical support by ensuring that Offertory collections are undertaken with little disruption to the Mass and that proceeds are left in front of the altar and ensure that those presenting the gifts are ready to do so. If anyone is interested in joining this ministry, please contact Fr. Rodrigues.

READERS NEEDED FOR WEEKDAY
& WEEKEND MASSES
I am still looking for volunteers who would be willing to read from the Holy Scriptures during weekday and Sunday Masses. Readings would include passages from the Old Testament, the Responsorial Psalm, and the New Testament (as well as our parish prayer intentions). If you would like to help our parish, please get in touch with Mrs. Anne Moran, our readers’ rota organiser, or Fr. Cirilo. Thanks are extended to the parishioners who have been part of this ministry for many years, those who have helped us as readers in the past and finally, those who have recently volunteered.

GIFT-AID SCHEME
Many thanks to those who have answered our appeal. We are still looking for new members. If you pay tax on income/pension the church can claim back the tax through the Gift-Aid Scheme. Forms are available at the back of the church if anyone wishes to join the scheme. If you have any queries about the Gift Aid system, please contact the parish Gift Aid organiser, Mr. Jim Cunningham or Fr. Cirilo. Alternatively, you can contribute to the Sunday Mass collections via a direct debit or standing order arrangement with your bank. Thank you once again for your enduring generosity and support.

parking in the streets
surrounding the church
Unfortunately, parishioners of St. Cadocs’ who drive to church are in a situation where there is no private parking within the church grounds. The streets surrounding the church therefore invariably become congested with parked cars especially at weekend Mass times. Whilst acknowledging the limitations of parking in relation to the church, I would ask those drivers attending services to consider the needs of local residents to have unimpeded access to their properties when choosing where to responsibly park. You can also use our car park which is situated behind the church. It can accommodate 6 cars.

AND WOMEN FACING CRISIS PREGNANCIES

an act of spiritual communion
(St. Alphonsus Liguori)
(This is a simple and loving act of Spiritual Communion we are called to make in these times,
while we are unable to attend Mass and receive the Eucharist)
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the
Most Holy Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there
and unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

prayer to st. michael
St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in the day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness
and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts,
by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan, and all the evil spirits
who prowl the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Holy mary, mother of god,
st. Joseph,
st. Michael and holy angels,
ST. CADOC,
Pray for us
