TRINITY SUNDAY (C)

READINGS TRINITY SUNDAY (C)

First Reading – (Proverbs 8: 22-31) – This is a reading in praise of wisdom. We are not dealing with mere worldly wisdom but with the wisdom of God. This speculation about wisdom was a groping towards the revelation of the mystery of the Trinity.

Responsorial Psalm – O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name through all the earth!

Second Reading – (Romans 5: 1-5) Christ made it possible for us to have a relationship of love with the Father. This gives us the hope of sharing in his glory, a hope which sustains us even in time of suffering. It is the Holy Spirit who helps us to recognise the Father’s love for us.

Gospel Reading(John 16:12-16) The Holy Spirit carries on in the Church the work of Jesus. He helps us to grasp the full meaning of all Jesus said and did. What Jesus did was to reveal the Father to us.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, listened to the Word of God let us now call upon God the Father who made us, the Son who redeemed us,  and the Holy Spirit who renews us, as we pray for our own needs and those of the Church and the world.

The response isLord graciously hear us.

We pray for the leaders of the Church: that they may continue to let themselves be inspired by the Holy Spirit to lead and guide the People of God. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for all those affected by the tragic plane crash in India: that God may give eternal rest to those who have died, and that he may grant comfort and strength to their families and friends in this unbearable time. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for all of humankind: that, as we cherish and celebrate the gift of life today, as a society we will grow in our awareness of the meaning and value of life at every stage and in every condition. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for all who are fathers and foster fathers: that on this Father’s Day they may be affirmed and strengthened in their calling. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for the millions of refugees worldwide, forced to flee their homes due to war, persecution, or natural disasters as we celebrate World Refugee Day during the week: that governments, organisations and individuals working to support and protect them, bring hope, comfort, and new opportunities to refugees worldwide. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for each one of us here present: that the Holy Spirit may help us in our efforts to live like Christ, and so do the will of God the Father in our lives. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for all the sick of our families and our parish, those in hospital, in hospice or nursing home and those for whom we are asked to pray: that God may give them strength and fortitude, and bless those who care for them. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for the souls of all those whose anniversaries, months mind and birthday remembrances we are asked to recall, as well as those who have died recently: that they may receive the reward of their faith and enjoy the happiness of heaven. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

CONCLUSION:  God our Father, have mercy on us and hear our prayers. May the love which unites the persons of the Holy Trinity shape our lives and the lives of all people. We make this prayer and all our prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.

the MOST HOLY TRINITY

Today we honour the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit – three persons, equal in majesty, undivided in splendour, yet one Lord, one God, ever to be adored in everlasting glory. Glory be to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

CALENDAR

Thursday is the memorial of St. Romuald (+1027). Romuald entered a monastery in Ravenna, Italy after witnessing his father kill someone in a duel. He eventually became Abbot, but later left to found his own order known as the Camaldolese Order of monks. He was esteemed for his spiritual life and asceticism. St. Aloysius Gonzaga (+1591) is remembered on Saturday. As a teenager he joined the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits) and was noted for his simplicity and piety. During a plague he cared for the sick. These efforts brought on the illness that claimed his life at the age of 23. The Jesuit Church in Garnethill, Glasgow is dedicated to him.

SECOND COLLECTION FOR THE WORK OF THE APOSTOLATE OF LIFE (DAY FOR LIFE) THIS WEEKEND

Day for Life is a day in the Church’s year dedicated to raising awareness about the meaning and value of human life at every stage and in every condition. The Church teaches that life is to be nurtured from conception to natural death. In Scotland we keep our Annual Day for Life on the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 31st May. Once again this year our Bishops have asked us to reflect on pro-life issues and to continue promoting and defending the dignity and sanctity of human life, especially in the mother’s womb and other vulnerable stages, and also to contribute financially to help the various agencies which promote the pro-life cause.

The annual collection for the Apostolate of the Pro-Life which is usually taken up on the nearest Sunday to the feast of the Visitation will be taken up at all Masses for the next two weekends beginning today. A box intended for the work of the Apostolate of Life will be situated at the back of the church for the next two weeks beginning this weekend. I hope you will contribute with your usual generosity to this worthwhile cause.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY “TEA & JUICE PARTY”

Children had a great day last Sunday. It was really wonderful to see all those young ones turning up for the party along with their parents, grandparents, guardians and carers. A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support our children on that day, and to those who donated the tasty home-baking and soft drinks, juices, cakes and contributed to this parish social event. I am also grateful the Clements Family for providing the chairs for the day. A word of appreciation and gratitude also to Irene Savage, Patricia Meikle, Rita Kelly and Ellen Leonard who worked so hard on the day with setting up and tidying away the buffet meal.

In addition, a big thank you to all the Children’s Liturgy helpers for their valued support during the year. We currently have a dedicated team of 4 Children’s Liturgists (Elizabeth Gray, Marie Claire Faller, Anne-Frances McLaughlin & Bernadette Sheppard) who lead the Liturgy of the Word discussions with our young people on a weekly basis. Two Liturgists attend each week to work with our young ones. Thank you also to the young people from our local high schools, candidates for the Pope Benedict XVI Caritas Award, who helped us with the children’s liturgy and other areas of parish life during the year.

Thanks are also extended to all those who have helped us in the Children’s Liturgy matters in previous years. We are looking for more volunteers. If any of you are interested in helping with the Children’s Liturgy Ministry on a Sunday, please contact Fr. Cirilo as soon as possible.

Special thanks to the parents, guardians and carers who bring their children to the church to participate in our children’s liturgy. Our young ones are the future of our parish. Their participation in parish activities, such as the children’s liturgy, is an important step in their faith formation. We recognise that parents, guardians, carers are the first catechists of their children. They are obviously of supreme importance and influence. Parents, guardians, carers, therefore, have a great responsibility to give a good example to their children, since children will grow in faith only if they see their parents, guardians, carers practise it. It is my humble and hearty request to parents, guardians & carers that you bring your children to a Sunday Mass on a regular basis.

GRATEFUL THANKS

Many thanks to Jim Cunningham, our parish Gift Aid organiser, for preparing the annual report to be sent to the Inland Revenue to make an annual claim on the Gift-Aid Scheme for the fiscal year 2024-2025. Thank you for his time, help and hard work. Many thanks to those who have answered our appeal.

We are still looking for new members. If you are a taxpayer, normally come to Church and are prepared to put your money offering in a confidential numbered envelope (or pay by Standing order) and sign a simple form, then the parish can (at no cost to yourself) reclaim the tax you have already paid on that offering. Anyone wishing to join the scheme, please contact Fr. Cirilo. Alternatively, you can contribute to the Sunday Mass collections via a direct debit or standing order arrangement with your bank. Thank you once again for your enduring generosity and support.

Thanks to all who have returned their SCIAF wee boxes. The total contributed in this way to SCIAF amounted to £780.83. Thank you also to Jennifer Adams who sorted out coins and carried them to the bank. Thank you once again to everyone in the parish for supporting SCIAF’s wee boxes Lenten appeal.

CHURCH GROUNDS & GARDEN MAINTENANCE

As part of this renewal project, children from St. Cadoc’s Primary School will be bringing Grateful thanks to Michael Hannaway for cutting the grass and tidying the church grounds last week, Charles Clements for tidying the church grounds at the entrance area of the church and pruning wild bushes behind the presbytery and William Mullen for his work at the back of the presbytery last week. These works have enhanced the outside appearance of the church and is very much appreciated by the parish as a whole.

In addition, my thanks to all others who help in the garden and maintain church grounds during the year.

NEW PARISHIONERS

We would ask those who are new to the parish, or who are moving house within the parish, to record their name, address and telephone number on the registration card provided in the porch of the church. I would greatly appreciate your involvement in the parish. If you have any spare time, talents, or skills to share, I rely on the kindness and support of parishioners like you to help us grow and serve our community better. It is also very helpful if those moving from the parish let us know, so that our statistics can be kept up to date. Please be assured that any data we have (including the parish survey I undertook in 2016) will be held in a secure way and will never be shared or given to anyone else.

parking in the streets

surrounding the church

Unfortunately, parishioners of St. Cadocs’ who drive to church are in a situation where there is no private parking within the church grounds. The streets surrounding the church   therefore invariably become congested with parked cars especially at weekend Mass times. Whilst acknowledging the limitations of parking in relation to the church, I would ask those drivers attending services to consider the needs of local residents to have unimpeded access to their properties when choosing where to responsibly park. You can also use our car park which is situated behind the church. It can accommodate 6 cars.

right to life uk: praying for the unborn

& women facing crisis pregnancies

June 15th 2025 – “As we celebrate Father's day, we pray for all fathers who are expecting a child. That they would find peace in their changing circumstances, and would be a source of support for the child’s mother as they prepare for their child to enter the world.”

an act of spiritual communion

 (St. Alphonsus Liguori)

(This is a simple and loving act of Spiritual Communion we are called to make in these times,

while we are unable to attend Mass and receive the Eucharist)

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already there

and unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

prayer to st. michael

St. Michael the Archangel,

defend us in the day of battle.

Be our safeguard against the wickedness

and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,

and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts,

by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan, and all the evil spirits

who prowl the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
