26TH sunday in ordinary time (C)

READINGS FOR THE TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (C)
First Reading – (Amos 6:1, 4-7) – Amos speaks to the wealthy of both Judah and Israel. Their crime is that they could not care less for the plight of the poor. Besides, their conduct will bring ruin on the whole nation.
Responsorial Psalm – My soul, give praise to the Lord.
Second Reading – (1 Timothy 6:11-16) – As Jesus was faithful to his call in face of an hostility that led to his death, so Christians facing persecution should be faithful to God’s call.
Gospel Reading – (Luke 16: 19-31) – This contains Jesus’ parable of the rich man and the beggar Lazarus.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, in today’s Gospel Jesus tells us that whatever we do to the least of our brothers and sisters we do it to him, and whatever we refuse to do to them we refuse to do to him. We are all God’s children and so we pray together for our own needs and those of the Church and the world.
The response is… Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for the leaders of the Church: that they may always give witness to the values of Christ’s kingdom in their preaching of the gospel. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for world leaders: that they may be more attentive to the needs and aspirations of the people they serve, especially the less privileged and marginalized among them. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for the poor, needy and refugees who dwell at our gates: that they may be treated with compassion and fairness, and given the help they need to live new lives. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life: that men and women may be inspired to dedicate their lives to the work of service in the Church and may respond generously to God’s call. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for ourselves: that we may be a responsible Christian community committed to the cause of our neighbours and friends, whose joys and sorrows we willingly share. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for all the sick of our families and our parish, those in hospital, in hospice or nursing home and those for whom we are asked to pray: that God may give them strength and fortitude, and bless those who care for them. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for the souls of all those whose anniversaries, months mind and birthday remembrances we are asked to recall, as well as those who have died recently: that they may receive the reward of their faith and enjoy the happiness of heaven. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
CONCLUSION: God our Father, thank you for creating this world with enough food for all to share. Help us to play our part in making sure that all people can have their fair share of food to eat. We make this prayer and all our prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.

I also ask your prayers for the sick and housebound

not only help in their suffering and pain but also reassure them

Our prayers help relieve their feelings of isolation and loneliness.
To be remembered before the Altar of God
brings them comfort and consolation.
Almighty and Eternal God, you are the everlasting health
of those who believe in you.
Hear us for your sick servants
for whom we implore the aid of your tender mercy,

OCTOBER DEVOTIONS
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. According to an account by fifteenth-century Dominican, Alan de la Roch, Mary appeared to St. Dominic in 1206 after he had been praying and doing severe penances because of his lack of success in combating the Albigensian heresy. Mary praised him for his valiant fight against the heretics and then gave him the Rosary as a mighty weapon, explained its uses and efficacy, and told him to preach it to others. A plenary indulgence is granted when the rosary is recited in a church or oratory or when it is recited in a family, a religious community, or a pious association. A partial indulgence is granted for its recitation in all other circumstances.

calendar
Monday is the feast of the Archangels - Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. St. Jerome (+440) is remembered on Tuesday. He was the foremost biblical scholar of the ancient Church. His translations of the Bible, along with his commentaries and homilies on the biblical books, have made him a major intellectual force in the Western Church. Wednesday is the memorial of the Little Flower - St. Therese of the Child Jesus (+1897). As a teenager she joined a Carmelite monastery in her native Normandy and made a strong impression on the community. Her autobiography, written under obedience, reveals the simplicity and profundity of her faith. She died aged 24, and with St. Francis Xavier, is the co-patroness of the Missions. The memorial of our Guardian Angels is kept on Thursday. This feast has been part of the Church’s calendar since 1670 and is a reminder to us that God has entrusted us to the protection and care of angels. Saturday is the memorial of St. Francis of Assisi (+1226). The son of a wealthy merchant, Francis Bernardone was a fun-loving and adventurous young man who decided to embark on a life of poverty and holiness by forming a community of like-minded Friars – known today as the Franciscans. His simple approach to life and his love of God’s creation has made him an inspirational figure to people of every generation.

appeal for the society
of st. peter the apostle
This will be the last weekend if you would like to contribute for the work of the Society of St. Peter the Apostle. The Society of St. Peter the Apostle funds the education of students to the priesthood and religious life in mission countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Often the Church in these countries cannot afford the cost of training the young men and women but because the Church is a family, we who are better off financially can share what we have with them. A box intended to support the work of the Society of St. Peter the Apostle is situated at the back of the church. Thank you very much in anticipation for your kind generosity in supporting this important cause.

children’s liturgy
We began the Children’s Liturgy of the Word once again at 10am Sunday Mass (except school holidays) last Sunday 7th September 2025.
I encourage parents, guardians & carers to bring their children to the church to participate in our children’s liturgy. Our young ones are the future of our parish. Their participation in parish activities, such as the children’s liturgy, is an important step in their faith formation. It is my humble and hearty request to parents, guardians & carers that you bring your children to a Sunday Mass on a regular basis.
We currently have a dedicated team of four Children’s Liturgists (Elizabeth Gray, Marie Claire Faller, Anne-Frances McLaughlin & Bernadette Sheppard) who lead the Liturgy of the Word discussions with our young people on a weekly basis. Two Liturgists attend each week to work with our young ones. Thanks to all those who have helped us in the Children’s Liturgy matters in previous years. We are looking for more volunteers. If any of you are interested in helping with the Children’s Liturgy Ministry on a Sunday, please contact Fr. Cirilo as soon as possible.

second collection for church building
& maintenance fund next weekend
Next Sunday (5th October 2025), being the first Sunday of the month, the normal second collection will be taken up at all Masses to help support our Church Building and Maintenance Fund for the month of October. A box intended for the Church Building & Maintenance Fund Collection will be situated at the back of the church for the next two weeks beginning next weekend. Please be generous towards our second collection as this greatly helps pay for essentials such as continued maintenance and much needed repairs to our parish buildings and existing facilities.
The Church Building and Maintenance Fund Collection is dedicated to ensuring the structural integrity and safety of the church building. This includes things like roof repairs, heating system, electrical work, and other essential maintenance tasks. The usual weekly offertory collection helps us cover the day-to-day costs of running the church, such as utilities (electricity, heating, water), insurance, church services, general maintenance of church properties, administrative needs and various sundry expenses.
On the other hand the undertaking of any of the major repair works previously mentioned, when needed, plus other essential costs associated with the running of the parish, would not be possible without your additional help and support. Your parish church dedicated to St. Cadoc’s very much depends on your contributions and generosity.
Once again, I thank all those who, over the years, have attended this church of St. Cadoc’s and I appreciate the many contributions that have been and continue to be made to the parish, and I look forward to your ongoing assistance in the future.

new vestments for our parish
I am considering purchasing a new set of vestments for our parish. The current vestments have served us faithfully for many years, and I believe it is time to invest in a new set to bring fresh beauty and dignity to our worship. These sacred garments, worn by our priests during Mass, help mark the special seasons and feast days of our liturgical year. The total cost of the new set of vestments is going to be roughly around £900.00 plus VAT. This is a significant cost to be borne by the parish. Should anyone wish to contribute towards the cost of these vestments, you may please place your donations in the offering plate or the box at the back of the church over the next few weeks.

kilbryde hospice community roadshow at st. columbkille’s
Kilbryde Hospice Community Roadshow will take place at St Columbkille’s Hall, Rutherglen, on Wednesday 1st October, from 12.30pm to 2pm (with refreshments from 12 noon and free wellbeing tasters beforehand). This Roadshow is part of Kilbryde’s commitment to listen to local people as we shape our 2026–2030 strategy, ensuring our services continue to reflect the needs of the communities we serve. It is an opportunity for parishioners to learn more about our care, share their views, and help design the future of hospice and community led support across Rutherglen and Cambuslang.

DO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE GIFT-AID SCHEME
AND HELP THE PARISH
It’s so simple. If you are a tax payer, normally come to Church, and are prepared to put your money offering in a confidential numbered envelope (or pay by Standing order) and sign a simple form, then the parish can (at no cost to yourself) reclaim the tax you have already paid on that offering. For every pound you give, your parish will get back an additional 25 pence from the Inland Revenue. Thanks are extended to all those who have answered our appeal and have committed to gift-aid their offerings. Anyone wishing to join the scheme, please contact Jim Cunningham, our parish Gift Aid organiser or Fr. Cirilo. Alternatively, you can contribute to the Sunday Mass collections via a direct debit or standing order arrangement with your bank. Thank you once again for your enduring generosity and support.

NEW PARISHIONERS
We would ask those who are new to the parish, or who are moving house within the parish, to record their name, address and telephone number on the registration card provided in the porch of the church. I would greatly appreciate your involvement in the parish. If you have any spare time, talents, or skills to share, I rely on the kindness and support of parishioners like you to help us grow and serve our community better. It is also very helpful if those moving from the parish let us know, so that our statistics can be kept up to date. Please be assured that any data we have (including the parish survey I undertook in 2016) will be held in a secure way and will never be shared or given to anyone else.

parking in the streets
surrounding the church
Unfortunately, parishioners of St. Cadocs’ who drive to church are in a situation where there is no private parking within the church grounds. The streets surrounding the church therefore invariably become congested with parked cars especially at weekend Mass times. Whilst acknowledging the limitations of parking in relation to the church, I would ask those drivers attending services to consider the needs of local residents to have unimpeded access to their properties when choosing where to responsibly park. You can also use our car park which is situated behind the church. It can accommodate 6 cars.
