SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY

AND BLOOD OF cHRIST (A)

READINGS FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY

AND BLOOD OF CHRIST (A)

First Reading – (Deuteronomy 8: 2-3, 14-16) – The author exhorts the Jews not to forget the God who cared for them in the wilderness by giving them Manna. They are to remember, too, that man needs bread of another kind, name, God’s word.

Responsorial Psalm – O Jerusalem, glorify the Lord!.

Second Reading – (1 Corinthians 10: 16-17) In the Eucharist we all share the same bread. This means that, however many of us are here, we form one Body in Christ.

Gospel Reading(John 6:51-58) This passage tells us that just as food and drink nourish the body, so all those who enter into communion with Christ will get nourishment for eternal life.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, as we gather today to celebrate the great Feast of Corpus Christi, we honour the profound gift of Christ’s Body and Blood. Nourished by this spiritual food, let us now bring our needs and those of the Church and the world before God our Father.

The response isLord graciously hear us.

We pray for the leaders of the Church: that the Eucharist we celebrate may fill them with the grace and wisdom to guide God’s people with holiness, courage, and a deep love for the Mass. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for peace and reconciliation in our troubled world: that the peace that flows from the Eucharist may transform hearts and minds, leading nations away from violence and towards understanding. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for those in our world who are hungry, both physically and spiritually: that through the generosity of Christ's disciples, they may find sustenance, hope, and human dignity. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for our faith community: that as we share the one bread and one cup, we may be moulded into a united and caring community, humbly serving one another. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for all the sick of our families and our parish, those in hospital, in hospice or nursing home and those for whom we are asked to pray: that God may be their strength and grant them health, and bless those who care for them. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for the souls of all those whose anniversaries, months mind and birthday remembrances we are asked to recall, as well as those who have recently died: that they may receive the reward of their faith and enjoy the happiness of heaven. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

CONCLUSION: God our Father, as we celebrate today’s feast, hear our prayers and grant us a love of the Eucharist that will never grow stale but will deepen and intensify all the days of our life. We make this prayer and all our prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.

solemnity of the most holy body

& blood of christ

Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, formerly known as Corpus Christi Sunday – a feast celebrating the enduring presence of Our Lord on earth through the gifts of his Body and Blood. St. Pope John Paul II reminded us in his Apostolic Letter, Dominicae Cenae, (The Lord’s Supper) that “the Church and the world have a great need of Eucharistic worship. Jesus waits for us in this Sacrament of Love; let us therefore be generous with our time in going to meet him in adoration and contemplation.”

CALENDAR

The famous St. Anthony of Padua (+1231) is honoured on Tuesday. He is one of the most popular saints in Catholic piety, is often petitioned to find lost articles. A native of Portugal, his Franciscan ministry took him finally to Padua, where he taught, preached and is buried.

CHILDREN’S (SUMMER) TEA PARTY

We finish the Children’s Liturgy for the summer holiday today (Sunday 7th June 2026) with a tea party after 10am Mass in the church house. An open invitation is extended to all the children attending the children’s liturgy and other children who may not be part of it, their parents, guardians, carers and all those who prepare, deliver and supervise it on a weekly basis. I look forward to welcoming you on that day. A big “thank you” to the Children’s Liturgy helpers (Elizabeth Gray, Marie Claire Faller, Anne-Frances McLaughlin, Bernadette Sheppard & Lucy Murdoch) for their valued support during the year. Thanks also to the parents, guardians and carers who bring their children to the church to participate in our children’s liturgy. We pray that our young people may have a safe and restful summer.

SECOND COLLECTION FOR CHURCH BUILDING

This Sunday (7th June 2026), being the first Sunday of the month, the normal second collection will be taken up at all Masses to help support our Church Building and Maintenance Fund for the month of June.

MANY THANKS

Many thanks to Jim Cunningham, our parish Gift Aid organiser, for preparing the annual report to be sent to the Inland Revenue to make an annual claim on the Gift-Aid Scheme for the fiscal year 2025-2026. Thank you for his time, help and hard work. Many thanks to those who have answered our appeal.

We are still looking for new members. If you are a taxpayer, normally come to Church and are prepared to put your money offering in a confidential numbered envelope (or pay by Standing order) and sign a simple form, then the parish can (at no cost to yourself) reclaim the tax you have already paid on that offering. Anyone wishing to join the scheme, please contact Fr. Cirilo. Alternatively, you can contribute to the Sunday Mass collections via a direct debit or standing order arrangement with your bank. Thank you once again for your enduring generosity and support.

parking in the streets

surrounding the church

A core part of our mission is to be good neighbours, both to one another and to those who live around our church. A handful of our neighbours have reached out with concerns about their driveways being blocked by vehicles during our services and gatherings. Please be mindful of where you park to ensure you are not blocking access to our neighbours’ homes. Thank you for your kindness and cooperation.

an act of spiritual communion

 (St. Alphonsus Liguori)

(This is a simple and loving act of Spiritual Communion we are called to make in these times,

while we are unable to attend Mass and receive the Eucharist)

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already there

and unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

prayer to st. michael

St. Michael the Archangel,

defend us in the day of battle.

Be our safeguard against the wickedness

and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,

and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts,

by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan, and all the evil spirits

who prowl the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
