READINGS FOR EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (A)
First Reading (Isaiah 55:1–3) - An invitation from God to come to the water and eat without money, seeking what truly satisfies the soul.
Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 145:15–18) - You open your hand and fulfil us, O Lord.
Second Reading (Romans 8:35, 37–39) – St. Paul’s strong declaration that nothing—neither tribulation, distress, nor famine—can separate us from the love of Christ.
Gospel (Matthew 14:13–21) - The famous miracle of the feeding of the five thousand with five loaves and two fish, pointing ahead to the Eucharist.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, God our Father, you do not send your people away hungry, but satisfy the deep longings of our hearts and bodies. Confident that you open your hand to fulfil our daily needs, we now bring our needs and the needs of the whole world into your hands.)

╬ We pray for the Church throughout the world: that that she may never stand before a hungry and broken humanity saying, “we do not have enough,” but may instead confidently offer her gifts, talents and resources to Jesus, trusting him to bless, break and multiply them. ╬ We pray for all communities devastated by fires, and for the firefighters working relentlessly to save them: that God may comfort the frightened, provide resources to those who have lost everything, and bless the emergency services with resilience, protection, and peace. ╬ We pray for the human family across the globe: that Christ, who looked with pity on the hungry crowds on the hillside, may draw near to all who are suffering today from war, poverty and isolation, satisfying both their physical hunger and their spiritual starvation. On Tuesday we remember St. John Mary Vianney, the unscholarly late vocation whose utter dedication to his pastorate, especially in the confessional and in his holy life, made him the model of parish priests. On Wednesday we have the Dedication of the Basilica of St Mary Major in Rome. The church we see today Is essentially the same great Marian Church, the first in the West, built by Pope Sixtus III in the aftermath of the Council of Ephesus (431) which defended Christ’s divinity by inisisting on Mary’s right to be called ‘Mother of God’. The Feast of the Transfiguration follows on Thursday. This year we hear the account of the Apostles’ wonderful experience on the mountain in St Luke’s version. On Friday we may honour St Cajetan, who in Reformation times gave up a promising career to found an order (the Theatines) to combat the great scandal of clerical corruption and lack of spirituality. The other possible Memorial is of the Pope and Martyr St Sixtus II, who died with some of his deacons in Valerian’s 3rd Century persecution. On Saturday we recall the memory of St Dominic (1170–1221). Many years spent opposing the heretical Cathars in southern France convinced him of the need to found an order (the Dominican Friars or Order of Preachers) dedicated to study as well as prayer and preaching, whose members could go where the Church’s needs were greatest and be a presence in the great Universities of the age.

It seems only the other day that we were looking forward to the summer holidays, and here we are having almost already forgotten how we spent them! Anyway, it won’t be long before the schools are back. I take this opportunity to welcome you back and also to extend a very warm welcome to the new people who have come to our parish of St. Cadoc’s over the past month or so. Whether you stayed at home or travelled, I do hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable time and managed to find some rest, renewal, and new strength in these summer weeks. As always, I would like to thank all those who, through their presence Sunday after Sunday, faithfully and generously contribute to the spiritual and material welfare of Saint Cadoc’s parish. Many thanks also to all who have worked during the summer weeks to keep our parish going.

SECOND COLLECTION FOR THE CHURCH BUILDING
& MAINTENANCE FUND this WEEKEND
This Sunday (2nd August 2026), being the first Sunday of the month, the normal second collection will be taken up at all Masses to help support our Church Building and Maintenance Fund for the month of August.
A box intended for the Church Building & Maintenance Fund Collection will be situated at the back of the church for the next two weeks beginning this weekend. Please be generous towards our second collection as this greatly helps pay for essentials such as continued maintenance and much needed repairs to our parish buildings and existing facilities.
Our monthly Church Building and Maintenance Fund Collection, which is specifically for the upkeep and repair of the church buildings itself, has been experiencing quite a sharp decline over the last few months, well below the average of £700 a month. The Church Building and Maintenance Fund Collection is dedicated to ensuring the structural integrity and safety of the church building.
This includes things like roof repairs, heating system, electrical work, and other essential maintenance tasks. The usual weekly offertory collection helps us cover the day-to-day costs of running the church, such as utilities (electricity, heating, water), insurance, church services, general maintenance of church properties, administrative needs and various sundry expenses. On the other hand, the undertaking of any of the major repair works previously mentioned, when needed, plus other essential costs associated with the running of the parish, would not be possible without your additional help and support. Your parish church dedicated to St. Cadoc’s very much depends on your contributions and generosity. Once again, I thank all those who, over the years, have attended this church of St. Cadoc’s and I appreciate the many contributions that have been and continue to be made to the parish, and I look forward to your ongoing assistance in the future.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Cornelius and Linda Duffy who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past week. As we thank God for them and all the years that they have shared. We pray that God will continue to grant them many more years of happiness together and abundantly bless their family.

eicrs for the church & presbytery
You will remember that we completed the full rewiring of St. Cadoc’s Church and presbytery in June 2016. Safety regulations require that these electrical installations be inspected and tested at least every 5 years by a qualified and competent professional. To ensure our compliance and safety, an electrical firm recently carried out this essential work. The final Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) has now been completed at a total cost of £696.00. Thank you for your continued financial support, which allows us to keep our parish buildings safe and well-maintained.

LITURGY ROTA
Liturgy rota for Readers (July – September 2026) for 5pm (Saturday) &10am & 11.30am (Sunday) Masses is available in the sacristy. Please collect a copy before or after any of the Sunday Masses. Thanks to Anne Moran for giving her time to prepare the readers rota. If you are able to be part of this important ministry, then please contact Mrs. Moran or Fr. Cirilo.
While our 10am Sunday Mass is well-covered, we urgently require volunteer readers for the Vigil Saturday Mass and 11.30am Sunday Mass. Sharing the scriptures is a beautiful way to serve your parish family. If you can help us in the reading ministry, please let Anne Moran or me know before or after any of the weekend Masses.

JOIN US FOR THE PARISH ANNUAL ‘THANK YOU’ PARTY
Please join us for our Annual ‘Thank You’ Party on Tuesday 18th August 2026. The celebration will take place in the church house (presbytery) from 6pm to 7.30pm. All parishioners and well-wishers of St. Cadoc’s Parish Community are warmly invited to the fellowship buffet. This invitation, will afford me the opportunity to say “Thank You” for supporting and contributing to the life of our parish. A great strength of our parish is that we all pull together to make the parish work. We all participate in every aspect of the church from attending Mass to providing a welcoming atmosphere at every service to cleaning up the grounds. There is no charge for the party, however, a donation to help defray the total cost of this parish social event would, if possible, be greatly appreciated. Raffle prizes (such as bottles of wine, spirits, chocolates, or any useful products you can donate) needed! It would be amazing if some of our wonderful parishioners and well-wishers could donate items to be used as raffle prizes.

Many thanks to Michael for his hard work last week in trimming the hedges at the back of the presbytery. His time and effort have truly tidied up the grounds and made a wonderful difference to our parish property. We deeply appreciate his hard work in keeping our parish grounds looking neat and beautiful. In addition, thanks to all others who help in the garden and maintain church grounds during the year.

It’s so simple. If you are a tax payer, normally come to Church, and are prepared to put your money offering in a confidential numbered envelope (or pay by Standing order) and sign a simple form, then the parish can (at no cost to yourself) reclaim the tax you have already paid on that offering. For every pound you give, your parish will get back an additional 25 pence from the Inland Revenue. Thanks are extended to all those who have answered our appeal and have committed to gift-aid their offerings.
