discard not the work of your hands.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, like Simon Peter, we acknowledge Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God. With hearts anchored in this faith, let us turn to God the Father and confidently present our own needs and those of the Church and the world.)
The response is… Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for Pope Leo and all our bishops, priests and deacons: that they may be blessed with the wisdom and the strength to serve as effective pastors of the flock entrusted to their pastoral care. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for all world leaders: that they may realise that all earthly authority is a trust from God, prompting them to govern with humility, integrity and a profound respect for human dignity. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for seminarians and those discerning a church vocation: that young men and women may hear the Lord’s personal question, “Who do you say that I am?” and respond with courage, generosity and a willingness to lead the next generation. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for ourselves: that the example of the apostle Peter, who professed his faith in the Messiah, may commit us to live as people of active faith, boldly witnessing to Christ in our daily lives. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for all the sick of our families and our parish, those in hospital, in hospice or nursing home and those for whom we are asked to pray: that God may give them strength and fortitude, and bless those who care for them. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for the souls of all those whose anniversaries, months mind and birthday remembrances we are asked to recall, as well as those who have recently died: that they may receive the reward of their faith and enjoy the happiness of heaven. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
CONCLUSION: God our Father, look with favour upon your people who acknowledge your Son as the Christ. Receive the prayers we bring before you today, answer them according to your holy will, and keep us securely within the care of your Church. We make this prayer and all our prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PLEASE REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE
IN YOUR PRAYERS THIS WEEK
SICK – Alex McLeod, Thérèse McKeand, Martin McGuire & James Hannaway.
I also ask your prayers for the sick and housebound
– those at home in our parish community, those in hospital,
and those in local nursing and care homes in Cambuslang, Halfway
& Blantyre and elsewhere. Our prayers for them
not only help in their suffering and pain but also reassure them
that they are not forgotten by our community of faith.
Our prayers help relieve their feelings of isolation and loneliness.
To be remembered before the Altar of God
brings them comfort and consolation.
Almighty and Eternal God, you are the everlasting health
of those who believe in you.
Hear us for your sick servants
for whom we implore the aid of your tender mercy,
that being restored to bodily health,
they may give thanks to you in your Church.
Through Christ our Lord.
Our Lady, Help of the Sick, pray for them.

calendar
This week has a variety of festivals. On Monday we celebrate the feast of St Bartholomew. He was one of the twelve apostles. His name occurs in the Synoptic Gospels only in the list of apostles. He is probably to be identified with the Nathanael of Cana, whom Philip brings to our Lord. Tradition says that he preached the gospel in India and was martyred there. On Tuesday there are optional memorials of St Louis IX of France (+1270) and St Joseph of Calasanz: St Louis, husband and father of eleven children, led the Second Crusade to the Holy Land. St. Louis, Missouri USA is named after him. The Spaniard St. Joseph Calasanz (+1648) is remembered for founding the Piarists, a religious order dedicated to educating the poor of Rome. On Thursday we recall the memorial of St Monica. The memorial of St Augustine of Hippo follows on Friday. Augustine was a brilliant young man whose early life was wild and unsettled. He was converted by the prayers of his mother, St Monica, and baptised by Saint Ambrose, bishop of Milan, in 387. He returned to Africa and lived an ascetic life. He became Bishop of Hippo. His many writings present a theology and a spirituality that are exceptional and have had great influence. The memorial of the beheading of St John the Baptist is celebrated on Saturday. This feast has its origin in Samaria, where the Baptist’s skull was venerated in the fourth century. By the seventh century the feast was celebrated everywhere recalling the greatest act of witness to Christ of John the Baptist (Mk 6:14-29).

‘PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION
(PAPAL FUND USED FOR CHARITY)
This will be the last weekend if you would like to contribute to help support the annual Peter’s Pence Collection.
The purpose of this Collection is to provide the Holy Father with the financial means to respond with emergency assistance to those who are suffering because of war, oppression, natural disaster and disease. This collection was started centuries ago to provide financial support for the Pope and has evolved to fund the Holy See’s charitable actions for those in need. Thank you for standing in solidarity with the Holy See with your generosity and please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in faith who are facing adversity.
A box intended to help support the ministry of Our Holy Father and the Work of the Holy See is situated at the back of the church. As every year, every offering – large or small – will support the Holy Father in his ministry and in his charitable activities in response to emergencies and needs around the world.

TEA PARTY TO SAY, ‘THANK YOU’ TO ALL PARISHIONERS & WELL-WISHERS OF ST. CADOC’S
What a fabulous evening we had at our recent parish social event! I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to each and every one of you who attended and made the event a resounding success. It was wonderful to see so many parishioners and well-wishers of St. Cadoc’s Parish Community joining with me for a cup of tea and a bite to eat. It was a joy to celebrate together and to see so many friendly faces.
A special thank you is also extended to everyone who had been involved in helping to prepare for this parish social event. I am especially grateful to those who contributed to help defray the cost associated with the event by giving donations and those who donated raffle prizes (including £100.00 worth Equi’s vouchers from Equi’s, Cambuslang) and bought raffle tickets on the night to cover the cost of the event.
A word of appreciation and gratitude to Irene Savage, Patricia Meikle, Rita Kelly, Ellen Leonard and Ann-Frances McLaughlin who worked so hard on the day with setting up and tidying away the buffet meal. I am incredibly grateful for the time and effort they dedicated to making the party a success.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our parishioners, through raffles and donations, we successfully raised a total of £425.00 (with raffles proceeds amounting to £160.00 & cash donations of £265.00) which helped us defray the cost of our parish celebration. I hope you enjoyed the evening as much as I did. We are truly blessed to have such a vibrant and supportive parish community. May God continue to bless our parish, strengthen our bonds of fellowship and deepen our love for one another.

BEST WISHES TO FR. VIVIAN HAYES ON HIS 95TH BIRTHDAY
We offer our warmest congratulations and best wishes to Fr. Vivian Hayes, who kindly helped us at St. Cadoc’s in previous years, on celebrating his 95th birthday recently (Friday 14th August 2026). May God continue to bless him with good health, peace and happiness! And may the good Lord continue to bless him in the work he called him to and may his constant love guide him along his future way.

children’s liturgy
We begin the Children’s Liturgy of the Word once again at 10am Sunday Mass (except school holidays) from next Sunday (6th September 2026).
I encourage parents, guardians & carers to bring their children to the church to participate in our children’s liturgy. Our young ones are the future of our parish. Their participation in parish activities, such as the children’s liturgy, is an important step in their faith formation. It is my humble and hearty request to parents, guardians & carers that you bring your children to a Sunday Mass on a regular basis.

prayer request on the occasion of the third death anniversary
You will remember my aunt (Luiza Maria Nazareth) passed away on 11th August 2023. A few weeks later, under tragic circumstances, the 2nd of September 2023 saw the loss of my cousins’ children: Shawn Michael Fernandes (27), Abigail De Souza (21) & Veldrofe D’Souza (Cousin’s Son-in-law, 26). I will be home for their anniversaries from Monday 24th August 2026 until Sunday 6th September 2026. I ask your prayers for my extended family at this time of the year. During my absence, Xaverian Missionary Priests will be standing in for me while I am away home.

DO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE GIFT-AID SCHEME
AND HELP THE PARISH
It’s so simple. If you are a tax payer, normally come to Church, and are prepared to put your money offering in a confidential numbered envelope (or pay by Standing order) and sign a simple form, then the parish can (at no cost to yourself) reclaim the tax you have already paid on that offering. For every pound you give, your parish will get back an additional 25 pence from the Inland Revenue. Thanks are extended to all those who have answered our appeal and have committed to gift-aid their offerings. Anyone wishing to join the scheme, please contact Jim Cunningham, our parish Gift Aid organiser or Fr. Cirilo. Alternatively, you can contribute to the Sunday Mass collections via a direct debit or standing order arrangement with your bank. Thank you once again for your enduring generosity and support.

NEW PARISHIONERS
We would ask those who are new to the parish, or who are moving house within the parish, to record their name, address and telephone number on the registration card provided in the porch of the church. I would greatly appreciate your involvement in the parish. If you have any spare time, talents, or skills to share, I rely on the kindness and support of parishioners like you to help us grow and serve our community better. It is also very helpful if those moving from the parish let us know, so that our statistics can be kept up to date. Please be assured that any data we have (including the parish survey I undertook in 2016) will be held in a secure way and will never be shared or given to anyone else.

parking in the streets
surrounding the church
A core part of our mission is to be good neighbours, both to one another and to those who live around our church. A handful of our neighbours have reached out with concerns about their driveways being blocked by vehicles during our services and gatherings. Please be mindful of where you park to ensure you are not blocking access to our neighbours’ homes. Thank you for your kindness and cooperation.
