READINGS FOR TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (A)
First Reading – (Ecclesiasticus 27:30 – 28:7) – This reading tells us that desire for revenge and refusal to forgive those who have hurt us make us unworthy of God’s forgiveness and mercy.
Responsorial Psalm – The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger and rich in mercy.
Second Reading – (Romans 14:7-9) – St. Paul reminds us that the living and dying of a Christian, that is to say his entire existence, is for Christ and for others.
Gospel Reading – (Matthew 18:21-35) – This contains the parable of the man who was very good at begging for mercy but very poor when it came to extending it to others.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, God our Father has forgiven us a debt we could never hope to repay. Confident in his endless mercy, let us now pray for our own needs and those of the Church and the world.)

On 2 September 2026 it has been 12 years (2nd September 2014) since I came here as your parish priest. I do not know how long I will be in St. Cadoc’s, but I do hope the Lord will give me many more years. Thank you for accepting me as a member of St. Cadoc’s Parish family. This is a great parish in which to be a priest, and I am deeply grateful for the wonderful example, generosity, kindness and support you have shown towards me during my time in St. Cadoc’s. This is what makes our community such a welcoming one and it is hugely rewarding to be part of it. I cannot thank you enough for your continued support and friendship. Please pray for me, as I will continue to keep you in my daily devotional prayers. May St. Cadoc watch over and guide you in the years ahead. May God reward you all with his blessings. – Fr. The most important feast of the week is that of the Triumph of the Cross on Monday. On this feast we honour the Holy Cross by which Christ redeemed the world. The discovery of the True Cross is dated to 14 September 320. On13 September 335 the churches on Calvary were dedicated and the cross that St Helena discovered was venerated there the next day. The annual commemoration of that event has been celebrated since, in praise of the redemption won for us by Christ. Associated with this is the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows on Tuesday. The early Scottish Saint Mirin, patron of Paisley is also celebrated on Tuesday. The optional memorial of St. Robert Bellarmine, Jesuit, Cardinal and great Counter Reformation defender of the Faith is celebrated on Thursday. Friday is the optional memorial of St Januarius, bishop & martyr, a 4th century Southern Italian saint most remembered for the strange phenomenon of the liquefaction of a relic said to be his blood.

vocation awareness week
Today we begin the National Vocations Awareness Week (13th September 2026 – 20th September 2026) in Scotland. Every year, the Catholic Church in Scotland sets aside a week in which we are all asked to reflect on our vocation within the Christian family, a vocation which flows from our shared Baptismal vocation to grow in holiness and in service of others. In particular, we are asked to pray, for those who are considering the possibility of a vocation to the priesthood, permanent diaconate, religious or consecrated life - that they may follow in our Lord's footsteps and answer His call to serve His people in ministry; to remember those in formation who have answered the call as we pray for their perseverance and the gifts they need to minister effectively and graciously to Christ's people. The need for vocations has never been greater. May the Catholic Church of Scotland, at the conclusion of Vocations Awareness Week, continue to receive the gift of priests, deacons, religious and dedicated lay women and men for the building up of God’s Kingdom.
SECOND COLLECTION FOR THE CHURCH BUILDING
& MAINTENANCE FUND
This will be the last weekend if you would like to contribute to our normal Church Building and Maintenance Fund Collection for the month of September. A box intended for the Church Building & Maintenance Fund Collection is situated at the back of the church. Please be generous towards our second collection as this greatly helps pay for essentials such as continued maintenance and much needed repairs to our parish buildings and existing facilities.

preparation for the sacraments
There will be a meeting of the parents, guardians & carers of St. Cadoc’s and St. Charles’ School children who are preparing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion & Confirmation in St. Cadoc’s Church. This meeting will take place in St Cadoc’s Church on Tuesday 29th September 2026: First Reconciliation (Confession) Meeting at 6pm, First Holy Communion at 6.35pm & Confirmation at 7.05pm. I ask all parents, guardians & carers of the children to be at this meeting.

children’s liturgy
We began the Children’s Liturgy of the Word once again at 10am Sunday Mass (except school holidays) last Sunday 6th September 2026. I encourage parents, guardians & carers to bring their children to the church to participate in our children’s liturgy. Our young ones are the future of our parish. Their participation in parish activities, such as the children’s liturgy, is an important step in their faith formation. It is my humble and hearty request to parents, guardians & carers that you bring your children to a Sunday Mass on a regular basis.

Thank you for supporting your parish while I was away home. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible through their time, hard work, support and commitment. Thank you also to Fr. Robert Sowa, a Xaverian Missionary priest, for his time and help over the past two weeks. His assistance and dedication was very much appreciated. SECOND COLLECTION FOR THE ECCLESIASTICAL STUDENTS’ FUND NEXT WEEKEND
The annual second collection for the education of our future priests and permanent deacons will be taken up at all Masses for the next two weekends (19th/20th September 2026 & 26th/27th September 2026) beginning next weekend to help towards the costs of this essential need. We are blessed with a good number of seminarians in Motherwell diocese at present but it is expensive to prepare them for priesthood. A box meant for the Ecclesiastical Students’ Fund Collection will be out at the back of the church for the next two weeks beginning next weekend. Please consider giving generously to the special collection. We continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life that men and women may be inspired to dedicate their lives to the work of service in the Church and may respond generously to God’s call.

wellspring renewal project
As part of this renewal project, children from St. Cadoc’s Primary School will be bringing the offering gifts in procession today at 10 am Sunday Mass (second Sunday of the month). I thank Mrs Faloon, the head teacher, and other staff members of St. Cadoc’s Primary School for taking this initiative and for their commitment to get pupils more involved in the life of the parish. Thank you also to the parents, guardians and carers for their presence at Mass and for bringing their children to our Sunday Mass on regular basis.

It’s so simple. If you are a tax payer, normally come to Church, and are prepared to put your money offering in a confidential numbered envelope (or pay by Standing order) and sign a simple form, then the parish can (at no cost to yourself) reclaim the tax you have already paid on that offering. For every pound you give, your parish will get back an additional 25 pence from the Inland Revenue. Thanks are extended to all those who have answered our appeal and have committed to gift-aid their offerings. Anyone wishing to join the scheme, please contact Jim Cunningham, our parish Gift Aid organiser or Fr. Cirilo.
