READINGS FOR TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (A)
First Reading – (Ezekiel 18:25–28) – This reading tells us that God deals justly with us, forgiving the sinner who repents and rewarding those who persevere.
Responsorial Psalm – Remember your compassion, O Lord.
Second Reading – (Philippians 2:1-5) – St. Paul reminds us that self-seeking and rivalry should have no place in the Christian community. Christ came on earth to give us an example of humility which we should imitate.
Gospel Reading – (Matthew 21:28-32) – This contains the parable of the two sons which highlights the dictum that “actions speak louder than words.” Doing good actions is better than speaking fine words.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, our Lord calls us to do the will of God the Father not merely with our lips, but through our actions. Trusting in his infinite patience, let us bring our own needs and those of the Church and the world in humility.

╬ We pray for the leaders of the Church: that they may lead the people of God with the humble mind of Christ Jesus, welcoming repentant souls back into the heart of the Church. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

OCTOBER DEVOTIONS
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. According to an account by fifteenth-century Dominican, Alan de la Roch, Mary appeared to St. Dominic in 1206 after he had been praying and doing severe penances because of his lack of success in combating the Albigensian heresy. Mary praised him for his valiant fight against the heretics and then gave him the Rosary as a mighty weapon, explained its uses and efficacy, and told him to preach it to others. A plenary indulgence is granted when the rosary is recited in a church or oratory or when it is recited in a family, a religious community, or a pious association. A partial indulgence is granted for its recitation in all other circumstances.

Monday is the memorial of St Wenceslaus, a duke, martyr and patron saint of Bohemia. Also, on the same day, we remember St Lawrence Ruiz and Companions. St Lawrence was a devoted husband and father of three children in the Philippines. After being wrongly accused of murder, he fled with Christian missionaries to Japan where he was tortured and killed for the faith. Tuesday is the feast of the Archangels - Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. St. Jerome (+440) is remembered on Wednesday. He was the foremost biblical scholar of the ancient Church. His translations of the Bible, along with his commentaries and homilies on the biblical books, have made him a major intellectual force in the Western Church. Thursday is the memorial of the Little Flower - St. Therese of the Child Jesus (+1897). As a teenager she joined a Carmelite monastery in her native Normandy and made a strong impression on the community. Her autobiography, written under obedience, reveals the simplicity and profundity of her faith. She died aged 24, and with St. Francis Xavier, is the co-patroness of the Missions. The memorial of our Guardian Angels is kept on Friday. This feast has been part of the Church’s calendar since 1670 and is a reminder to us that God has entrusted us to the protection and care of angels.

SECOND COLLECTION for the ecclesiastical students’ fund
This will be the last weekend if you would like to contribute towards the annual collection to for the education of our future priests and permanent deacons. We are blessed with a good number of seminarians in Motherwell diocese at present, but it is expensive to prepare them for priesthood.
A box intended for the collection for the ecclesiastical students’ (education) fund is situated at the back of the church. I hope you will contribute with your usual generosity to this collection.

preparation for the sacraments
There will be a meeting of the parents, guardians & carers of St. Cadoc’s and St. Charles’ School children who are preparing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion & Confirmation in St. Cadoc’s Church. This meeting will take place in St Cadoc’s Church on Tuesday 29th September 2026: First Reconciliation (Confession) Meeting at 6pm, First Holy Communion at 6.35pm & Confirmation at 7.05pm. I ask all parents, guardians & carers of the children to be at this meeting.

SALE OF SURPLUS GROUND FOR CHILDREN’S DAY NURSERY
The Diocese has agreed to the disposal of the surplus ground adjacent to the St. Cadoc’s Church garage. Our Solicitors, McSparran & McCormick have prepared a draft offer to sell the ground for £72,000. A draft Disposition to progress matters to a conclusion has been agreed by the parties. This is currently with Glasgow Law Practice/Hollytree Nursery Ltd. and the transaction is expected to be settled before the end of this month. Planning Permission has already been granted for the proposal by South Lanarkshire Council.

SECOND COLLECTION FOR CHURCH BUILDING
& MAINTENANCE FUND NEXT WEEKEND
Next Sunday (4th October 2026), being the first Sunday of the month, the normal second collection will be taken up at all Masses to help support our Church Building and Maintenance Fund for the month of October.
A box intended for the Church Building & Maintenance Fund Collection will be situated at the back of the church for the next two weeks beginning next weekend. Please be generous towards our second collection as this greatly helps pay for essentials such as continued maintenance and much needed repairs to our parish buildings and existing facilities.

LITURGY ROTA
Liturgy rota for Readers (October – December 2026) for 5pm (Saturday) &10am & 11.30am (Sunday) Masses is available in the sacristy. Please collect a copy before or after any of the Sunday Masses. Thanks to Mrs Anne Moran for giving her time to prepare the readers rota.
While our 10am Sunday Mass is well-covered, we urgently require volunteer readers for the Vigil Saturday 5pm Mass and 11.30am Sunday Mass.it is usually once a month. Sharing the scriptures is a beautiful way to serve your parish family. If you can help us in the reading ministry, please let Anne Moran or Fr. Cirilo know before or after any of the weekend or weekday Masses.

children’s liturgy
We began the Children’s Liturgy of the Word once again at 10am Sunday Mass (except during school holidays) from the beginning of September 2026. I encourage parents, guardians & carers to bring their children to the church to participate in our children’s liturgy. Our young ones are the future of our parish. Their participation in parish activities, such as the children’s liturgy, is an important step in their faith formation. It is my humble and hearty request to parents, guardians & carers that you bring your children to a Sunday Mass on a regular basis. I hope to see a wonderful turnout for our children’s liturgy in the weeks ahead, and I thank our parents, guardians and carers for encouraging their children to join us.

wellspring renewal project
As part of this renewal project, children from St. Cadoc’s Primary School will be bringing the offering gifts in procession today at 10 am Sunday Mass (second Sunday of the month). I thank Mrs Faloon, the head teacher, and other staff members of St. Cadoc’s Primary School for taking this initiative and for their commitment to get pupils more involved in the life of the parish. Thank you also to the parents, guardians and carers for their presence at Mass and for bringing their children to our Sunday Mass on regular basis.

It’s so simple. If you are a tax payer, normally come to Church, and are prepared to put your money offering in a confidential numbered envelope (or pay by Standing order) and sign a simple form, then the parish can (at no cost to yourself) reclaim the tax you have already paid on that offering. For every pound you give, your parish will get back an additional 25 pence from the Inland Revenue. Thanks are extended to all those who have answered our appeal and have committed to gift-aid their offerings. Anyone wishing to join the scheme, please contact Jim Cunningham, our parish Gift Aid organiser or Fr. Cirilo.
