27TH sunday in ordinary time (A)
READINGS FOR TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (A)
First Reading – (Isaiah 5:1–7) – Israel is compared to a vineyard which fails to produce fruit in spite of the fact that the owner (God) has lavished the utmost care and attention on it. It is destined to become a wilderness.
Responsorial Psalm – The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel.
Second Reading – (Philippians 4:6-9) – In this reading St. Paul gives us a very good picture of the kind of fruit we should produce in the vineyard of our lives.
Gospel Reading – (Matthew 21:33-43) – This takes up the same theme as the first reading, except here it is the leaders who are reproached for their failure to produce the goods.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, God has planted us as a chosen vineyard and asks us to yield a harvest of love and justice. Recognising our calling to bear good fruit, let us now turn to the Master of the Vineyard and place before him our own needs and those of the Church and the world.)
The response is… Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for the leaders of the Church: that they may continue to be wise and faithful stewards of God’s vineyard, nurturing the seeds of faith and helping all believers to bear a rich harvest of holiness. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for all world leaders and those in authority: that they may govern with wisdom, respect the dignity of every human life and work diligently to cultivate a global harvest of justice, freedom and lasting peace. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for our parish community during this month of the Holy Rosary: that, as we contemplate the mysteries of the Rosary, the Mother of God may guide us away from all anxiety and lead us closer to the peace of her Son. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for each of us gathered here today: that we may cast aside all anxiety, focus our minds on whatever is pure and good, and faithfully yield the fruits of God’s kingdom in our lives. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for all the sick of our families and our parish, those in hospital, in hospice or nursing home and those for whom we are asked to pray: that God may give them strength and fortitude, and bless those who care for them. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
╬ We pray for the souls of all those whose anniversaries, months mind and birthday remembrances we are asked to recall, as well as those who have recently died: that they may receive the reward of their faith and enjoy the happiness of heaven. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.
CONCLUSION: God our Father, Master of the Vineyard, look with love upon your people and hear the prayers we lift up to you today. Help us to tend the soil of our hearts so that we may yield a rich harvest of justice and peace. We make this prayer and all our prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.

SICK – Rosemary Leydon, Alex McLeod, Thérèse McKeand, Martin McGuire & James Hannaway.
I also ask your prayers for the sick and housebound
– those at home in our parish community, those in hospital,
and those in local nursing and care homes in Cambuslang, Halfway
& Blantyre and elsewhere. Our prayers for them
not only help in their suffering and pain but also reassure them
that they are not forgotten by our community of faith.
Our prayers help relieve their feelings of isolation and loneliness.
To be remembered before the Altar of God
brings them comfort and consolation.
Almighty and Eternal God, you are the everlasting health
of those who believe in you.
Hear us for your sick servants
for whom we implore the aid of your tender mercy,

they may give thanks to you in your Church.
Through Christ our Lord.
Our Lady, Help of the Sick, pray for them.

OCTOBER DEVOTIONS
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. According to an account by fifteenth-century Dominican, Alan de la Roch, Mary appeared to St. Dominic in 1206 after he had been praying and doing severe penances because of his lack of success in combating the Albigensian heresy. Mary praised him for his valiant fight against the heretics and then gave him the Rosary as a mighty weapon, explained its uses and efficacy, and told him to preach it to others. A plenary indulgence is granted when the rosary is recited in a church or oratory or when it is recited in a family, a religious community, or a pious association. A partial indulgence is granted for its recitation in all other circumstances.

calendar
Tuesday is the memorial of St. Bruno, the 11th century founder of the Carthusians, a strict order who live a kind of hermits’ life, meeting only for Mass and prayer, and observing silence at almost all times. They also make the famous liqueur ‘Chartreuse’. Wednesday is the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, historically associated with the defeat of the Saracens at Lepanto, 1571. On Friday we remember Paris’ patron saint, the martyr Denis & his companions, and St John Leonardi, a 16th-17th century figure, dedicated to resisting Reformation ideas through the order he founded and inspiring the church’s missionary efforts.

SECOND COLLECTION FOR CHURCH BUILDING
& MAINTENANCE FUND THIS WEEKEND
This Sunday (4th October 2026), being the first Sunday of the month, the normal second collection will be taken up at all Masses to help support our Church Building and Maintenance Fund for the month of October.
A box intended for the Church Building & Maintenance Fund Collection will be situated at the back of the church for the next two weeks beginning next weekend. Please be generous towards our second collection as this greatly helps pay for essentials such as continued maintenance and much needed repairs to our parish buildings and existing facilities.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO HELP
WITH RISING ENERGY BILLS (GAS & ELECTRICITY)
We are approaching to that of year when our heating and electricity bill will start going up as we head into winter. I kindly appeal to your generosity to consider adding an extra pound or two to your weekly contributions to help the parish defray the high cost of our energy bills over the coming cold months. As a practical reminder to help us manage these costs, please be mindful of closing the main doors of the church behind you to keep the heat in and the cold out. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Liturgy rota for Readers (October – December 2026) for 5pm (Saturday) &10am & 11.30am (Sunday) Masses is available in the sacristy. Please collect a copy before or after any of the Sunday Masses. Thanks to Mrs Anne Moran for giving her time to prepare the readers rota.
While our 10am Sunday Mass is well-covered, we urgently require volunteer readers for the Vigil Saturday 5pm Mass and 11.30am Sunday Mass.it is usually once a month. Sharing the scriptures is a beautiful way to serve your parish family. If you can help us in the reading ministry, please let Anne Moran or Fr. preparation for the sacraments
Thank you to the parents, guardians and carers of our children from St. Charles’ and St. Cadoc’s Primary Schools for attending the sacramental meetings during the past week. It was truly encouraging to see parents, guardians and carers taking such a wonderful interest in the spiritual lives of their children. Thank you for their time and commitment in matters of faith.
My sincere thanks also go to the teachers and school staff, who do so much to assist me and to facilitate the faith formation of your children. Their dedication to helping our children grow up in a truly Christian way in itself is a powerful witness to the Gospel.
Once again, I wish to remind all parents, guardians and carers of candidates for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation of the vital importance of attending Mass faithfully each week.

WORDS OF THANKS TO PARISH ORGANISTS
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Joe McHenry for completing 30 years of dedicated service playing the organ at St. Cadoc’s last week. We are deeply grateful for his three decades of devotion and look forward to his continued ministry in our parish community. Our sincere thanks also go to Jim Keenan, who plays the organ for our Saturday evening Vigil Mass, and to everyone else who steps in to provide music for other occasions throughout the year. We are truly blessed by your musical ministry.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY
We began the Children’s Liturgy of the Word once again at 10am Sunday Mass (except during school holidays) from the beginning of September 2026. I encourage parents, guardians & carers to bring their children to the church to participate in our children’s liturgy on regular basis. Our young ones are the future of our parish. Their participation in parish activities, such as the children’s liturgy, is an important step in their faith formation. It is my humble and hearty request to parents, guardians & carers that you bring your children to a Sunday Mass on a regular basis. I hope to see a wonderful turnout for our children’s liturgy in the weeks ahead, and I thank our parents, guardians and carers for encouraging their children to join us.
Please note that there will be no Children’s Liturgy for the next two weekends due to the October week school holiday. The sessions will resume as normal on Sunday 25th October 2026. We wish all of our children and families a safe and restful holiday week!

CHURCH GROUNDS & GARDEN MAINTENANCE
A big thank you to Michael for cutting the grass last week. Your hard work in keeping the church grounds looking neat and tidy is very much appreciated! Thank you also to William Mullen for cleaning the monobloc in front of the church and at the entrance area of the presbytery. We deeply appreciate their hard work in keeping our parish grounds looking neat and beautiful. In addition, thanks to all others who help in the garden and maintain church grounds during the year.

DO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE GIFT-AID SCHEME
AND HELP THE PARISH
It’s so simple. If you are a tax payer, normally come to Church, and are prepared to put your money offering in a confidential numbered envelope (or pay by Standing order) and sign a simple form, then the parish can (at no cost to yourself) reclaim the tax you have already paid on that offering. For every pound you give, your parish will get back an additional 25 pence from the Inland Revenue. Thanks are extended to all those who have answered our appeal and have committed to gift-aid their offerings. Anyone wishing to join the scheme, please contact Jim Cunningham, our parish Gift Aid organiser or Fr. Cirilo. Alternatively, you can contribute to the Sunday Mass collections via a direct debit or standing order arrangement with your bank. Thank you once again for your enduring generosity and support.

NEW PARISHIONERS
We would ask those who are new to the parish, or who are moving house within the parish, to record their name, address and telephone number on the registration card provided in the porch of the church. I would greatly appreciate your involvement in the parish. If you have any spare time, talents, or skills to share, I rely on the kindness and support of parishioners like you to help us grow and serve our community better. It is also very helpful if those moving from the parish let us know, so that our statistics can be kept up to date. Please be assured that any data we have (including the parish survey I undertook in 2016) will be held in a secure way and will never be shared or given to anyone else.

parking in the streets
surrounding the church
A core part of our mission is to be good neighbours, both to one another and to those who live around our church. A handful of our neighbours have reached out with concerns about their driveways being blocked by vehicles during our services and gatherings. Please be mindful of where you park to ensure you are not blocking access to our neighbours’ homes. Thank you for your kindness and cooperation.
