READINGS FOR THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (A)

First Reading – (Wisdom 6:12–16) – This reading sings the praises of wisdom and at the same time it says that it can be found by all who seek it.

Responsorial Psalm – For you my soul is thirsting, O Lord, my God.

Second Reading – (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) – St. Paul consoles his converts at Thessalonica who are worried about the fate of their loved ones who have died. He tells them that God will raise them up just as surely as he raised Christ Jesus.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

INTROUCTION: Dear brothers and sisters, now that we have been comforted by God’s holy word on this remembrance Sunday, let us pray for our departed relatives, friends and parishioners, and also mindful of those who have no one to pray for them, that they may be found worthy of the promises of Christ.)

The response is… Lord graciously hear us.

╬ We pray for the departed members of our families: that they may rest from their labours, since their good deeds go with them. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

╬ We pray for all those who have served the Church as priests or religious: that they may now worship God in the eternal liturgy of heaven. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

╬ We pray for the repose of the souls of our deceased parishioners, as well as the family members and friends who have died elsewhere since November 2025: that they may be granted eternal rest and peace in the loving presence of God, our Father. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

╬ We pray, on this Remembrance Sunday, for all those who have died in war, for those known to us and for the countless numbers who are unknown: that they may rest in peace, and that their memory may inspire us always to work for peace in our day. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

╬ We pray for all the sick of our families and our parish, those in hospital, in hospice or nursing home and those for whom we are asked to pray: that God may give them strength and fortitude, and bless those who care for them. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us

╬ We pray for all our departed loved ones whose names are, or will be, on our November Lists: that God may welcome them into the peace of his eternal banquet. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us

╬ We pray for the souls of all those whose anniversaries, months mind and birthday remembrances we are asked to recall, as well as those who have recently died: that they may receive the reward of their faith and enjoy the happiness of heaven. Lord, hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

CONCLUSION: God our Father, we offer you our humble prayers, knowing that you will answer them because you have promised us eternal life. We make this prayer and all our prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.

ANNUAL MASS CENSUS

Last weekend’s count was 219, which is 28 down on last year’s total of 247 (October 2025). Once again, I would like to thank all those who, through their presence Sunday after Sunday, faithfully and generously contribute to the spiritual and material welfare of Saint Cadoc’s parish.

CALENDAR

Monday is the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, the Pope’s Cathedral which is dedicated to John the Baptist and John the Evangelist. The first church opened for public worship once Rome had become officially Christian in the 4th century, it is known as ‘The head and Mother Church of the city and the world’.  Tuesday is the memorial of Pope St. Leo the Great (+461), a brilliantly gifted writer and preacher, many of whose sermons survive to this day. He famously diverted the invasion of Rome by Attila the Hun. Wednesday is the feast of St. Martin of Tours (+397). A soldier who hung up his sword, he opened the first monastery in the West and became Bishop of Tours, France. On Thursday we have St. Josaphat (+1623) who worked tirelessly for the union of the Eastern and Western Churches. His own people nominated him Archbishop, but he suffered martyrdom at the hands of those who opposed his efforts.  He is buried in the Vatican. Friday is the optional memorial of St Machar, a sixth century Irish missionary, who is believed to have worked on the Isle of Mull and perhaps eastern Scotland.

SECOND COLLECTION FOR THE CHURCH BUILDING

& MAINTENANCE FUND

This will be the last weekend if you would like to contribute to our normal Church Building and Maintenance Fund Collection for the month of November.

A box meant for the Church Building & Maintenance Fund Collection is situated at the back of the church. Please be generous towards our second collection as this greatly helps pay for essentials such as continued maintenance and much needed repairs to our parish buildings and existing facilities.

Our monthly Church Building and Maintenance Fund Collection, which is specifically for the upkeep and repair of the church buildings itself, has been experiencing quite a sharp decline over the last few months, well below the average of £700 a month. The Church Building and Maintenance Fund Collection is dedicated to ensuring the structural integrity and safety of the church building.

This includes things like roof repairs, heating system, electrical work, and other essential maintenance tasks. The usual weekly offertory collection helps us cover the day-to-day costs of running the church, such as utilities (electricity, heating, water), insurance, church services, general maintenance of church properties, administrative needs and various sundry expenses. On the other hand, the undertaking of any of the major repair works previously mentioned, when needed, plus other essential costs associated with the running of the parish, would not be possible without your additional help and support. Your parish church dedicated to St. Cadoc’s very much depends on your contributions and generosity. Once again, I thank all those who, over the years, have attended this church of St. Cadoc’s and I appreciate the many contributions that have been and continue to be made to the parish, and I look forward to your ongoing assistance in the future.

MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS

During the month of November, it is a sacred tradition in the Church to pray for those who have gone before us and whose loss we feel. We do this in many ways but the most common is to remember them at Mass.

If you would like your dead loved ones to be remembered at Mass during the month of the Holy Souls, then please complete a November list provided with today’s bulletin and return it to the box provided at the back of the Church. “The remembrance of the dead, the care for graves and prayers of repose are a witness of the confident hope, rooted in the certainty that death is not the final word on the human fate, since man is destined to a life without limits which has its roots and its fulfilment in God.”

Please come to Mass more frequently during the month of November to pray for all the Faithful Departed. As we pray together for our deceased family members, relatives and friends, remembering also those who have no one to pray for them, we ask the Lord to continue to watch over and bless you, your family, and your friends.

We are delighted to welcome back to our community the Xaverian Missionary Priests. They will be covering our parish liturgies and caring for our community from Tuesday 17th November 2026 until Sunday 29th November 2026 while I am away home to Goa (India).

CATHOLC EDUCATION SUNDAY

Next weekend (14th/15th November 2026), we celebrate Catholic Education Sunday in our parish, a day when we pray for the continuing success of Catholic Schools in serving our own community and contributing to the well-being of the entire country. We remember with gratitude our ancestors who set up and supported our Catholic Schools with very little in the way of resources. The upkeep of the Church agencies which help promote and support (and sometimes defend) our schools is costly.

The annual Special Collection to support the work of the Catholic Education Commission and the Scottish Catholic Education Service which helps to develop and support our excellent schools, will be taken up at all Masses on the weekends of 14th/15th November 2026 & 21st/22nd November 2026.

PARISH CHRISTMAS PARTY

Join us for a wonderful evening of festive cheer and fellowship at our Parish Christmas Party on Thursday 3rd December 2026. The celebration will take place in church house (presbytery) from 6pm to 7.30pm. All parishioners and well-wishers of St. Cadoc’s Parish Community are warmly invited to the fellowship buffet.  This will be a great opportunity to connect with fellow parishioners and well-wishers to celebrate the joy of the season.

I look forward to celebrating the spirit of the season with our parish family! There is no charge for the party, however, a donation to help defray the total cost of this parish social event would, if possible, be greatly appreciated. Raffle prizes (such as bottles of wine, spirits, chocolates, or any useful products you can donate) needed! It would be amazing if some of our wonderful parishioners and well-wishers could donate items to be used as raffle prizes.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO HELP

WITH RISING ENERGY BILLS (GAS & ELECTRICITY)

We are approaching to that of the year when our heating and electricity bills will begin to rise as we head into winter. I kindly appeal to your generosity to consider adding an extra pound or two to your weekly contributions to help the parish defray the high cost of our energy bills over the coming cold months. As a practical reminder to help us manage these expenses, please be mindful of closing the main church doors behind you to keep the heat in and the cold out. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has already increased their regular giving to help cover our rising energy bills.

NEW PARISHIONERS

We would ask those who are new to the parish, or who are moving house within the parish, to record their name, address and telephone number on the registration card provided in the porch of the church. I would greatly appreciate your involvement in the parish. If you have any spare time, talents, or skills to share, I rely on the kindness and support of parishioners like you to help us grow and serve our community better. It is also very helpful if those moving from the parish let us know, so that our statistics can be kept up to date. Please be assured that any data we have (including the parish survey I undertook in 2016) will be held in a secure way and will never be shared or given to anyone else.

parking in the streets

surrounding the church

A core part of our mission is to be good neighbours, both to one another and to those who live around our church. A handful of our neighbours have reached out with concerns about their driveways being blocked by vehicles during our services and gatherings. Please be mindful of where you park to ensure you are not blocking access to our neighbours’ homes. Thank you for your kindness and cooperation.
